In 1969 I painted my first oil painting and have been hooked on art ever since. I've worked in many mediums including oils, pastels, charcoal, pencil, watercolor, scratch art, porcelain and most recently pyrography. It's been challenging to see how many I could master.
In the 40+ years I've been creating art, I've taught classes from adult to children. In 1988 I founded the Art Mom program at our elementary school. It involved training parent volunteers to come into the classrooms once a week and teach art to the kids.
In 1990 I wrote and received a grant from the NIC Living History Project to help kids in our community create and paint six historical murals depicting the history of Idaho. Working with the kids on that project was a great experience.
I taught adult art classes and work shops for 30+ years and have spent many years studying art. In 1994 I graduated from North Idaho College having been listed on the National Dean's List for the years 1991, 1992, and 1993, and was awarded the Laura Moore Cunningham Scholarship for art in those same years. I've also been lucky to have had the opportunity to take classes and workshops in a range of media with teachers from all over the world.
I've had many works in various shows, galleries and gift shops, but a couple of notables are: in January/February 1992, I was one of three students from NIC chosen to show my work at the Chase Gallery in Spokane; and in January of 1993 I had my own gallery opening at the Arts Center in Wallace, ID. In 2009 I was juried into the 8th Annual Wildlife Show in Irving, TX. I've received many awards and ribbons for my work at various shows and competitions over the years.
In 1994 I dropped out of the fine art world and devoted myself to my graphic design and marketing business where I also won several awards and recognition. I enjoy graphic design very much, but the need to create art kept pulling at me, and I decided I had to return to fine art
In 2004 my husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to move to the top of a mountain overlooking Hauser Lake in North Idaho. We have deer, moose, and elk come through our yard frequently, in addition to many smaller animals and birds. It has been a great adventure for an artist who loves wildlife. We've also made several trips to Alaska, and a number of National Parks where I photograph nature for use in paintings. Our most unforgettable trip was in May of 2012 when we went to Africa. What an experience.
We have two beautiful daughters who are now on their own and two grandsons. They are great blessings.
